Day 1: Indianapolis / Battle Creek / Traverse City, MI
Depart by coach from the Indianapolis area. Visit the lakeside setting of the Kellogg Manor House. The Tudor style home sits high on Gull Lake and was home to the cereal magnate, W.K. Kellogg. The home has been restored to its original grandeur. Enjoy lunch then tour the home and gardens all in a lakeside setting. The site also includes a carriage house with chauffeur’s residence, a greenhouse with potting shed, a caretaker’s cottage, a boathouse, an authentic Dutch windmill, and a lakeside pagoda. Day 2: Traverse City / Leelanau Peninsula / Mission Point
Our local tour guide will join us for the day. Travel Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore . Travel through 7.4 miles of dunes, woods, and breathtaking views of Lake Michigan on Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore won the title of “Good Morning America’s” Most Beautiful Place in America. Tens of thousands of viewers voted online for this Michigan park, which is one of the nation’s best-kept secrets. The hidden gem boasts 64 miles of beaches along Lake Michigan, two islands, 26 inland lakes, more than 50,000 acres of land, and the monumental sand dunes from which it gets its name.
Visit The Cherry Republic, the largest cherry store in the world. Strangely beautiful, delicious and eccentric, rustic and friendly, rooted in the region’s bounty…the main store is the primary sampling, shopping and gift giving station. You may want to try a delicious Boom Chunka cookie and a coffee. Stock up on everything from jams to salsas to chocolates and more. Depart for the beautiful and pristine Leelanau Peninsula. Leland is a picturesque little village so uncommon and charming, you will be mesmerized with its beauty and amenities. Leland is a great “walking around” town. Enjoy lunch on your own here. Free time to browse the shops on your own. Leland’s historical district, known as Fishtown, features rustic shanties and docks reminiscent of life and commercial fishing one hundred years ago. Today, galleries and unique shops fill their walls. In Northport, you can choose to go up to the top of the Grand Traverse Lighthouse…located inside the Leelanau State Park. The Lighthouse has been guiding ships and sailors since it was built in 1858. Depart for a brief stop at your hotel to freshen up. This evening enjoy wine tasting at Chateau Chantal Winery with great views of the peninsula followed by dinner at Mission Tavern on Mission Point Peninsula. Day 3: Traverse City / Petosky, MI
Our day starts with a tour the Music House Museum which features an extensive collection of fine and rare antiques and automated musical instruments in period American settings. The gem of the collection is a magnificent 97-key Mortier dance organ built in Antwerp in 1922. Lunch is aboard a Tall Ship as you cruise the Bay. Indulge yourself at a Cherry Orchard, their roadside stands are chock full of fresh bounty from the area. Travel to Petoskey and your accommodations at the historic Perry Hotel in downtown Petoskey. Built in 1899 as one of some twenty original luxury resort hotels, Stafford’s Perry Hotel is the only one still in operation. Experience the grandeur and elegance of a by-gone era without leaving modern-day conveniences behind. The hotel is right downtown in the Gaslight District, for shopping and dining. Day 4: Petosky / Mackinac Island
This morning we travel to Mackinaw City where we’ll take Shepler’s Ferry to Mackinac Island. Upon arrival to the island, enjoy a 90 minute narrated tour of the island which takes you past the beautiful Grand Hotel, up to Surrey Hill, through the State Park and stop for a great view at Arch Rock. Your tour will stop at the Grand Hotel, where you will enjoy their sumptuous luncheon buffet. Afterwards, spend some time relaxing on the 660’ front porch of the hotel, stroll the grounds and the shops. A horse-drawn taxi service will take you into the downtown for shopping and exploring the waterfront before check-in at the Lake View Hotel, a full service historic hotel with restaurant, lounge, indoor pool, whirlpool. Dinner included tonight at the hotel. Enjoy the rest of the evening on your own, the hotel is close to pubs and shops to browse, or sit and listen to live music. Day 5: Mackinac Island / Frankenmuth, MI
Enjoy the hotel this morning, or buy some last minute fudge! Depart by ferry to Mackinaw City where you’ll meet your coach. Travel to West Branch for lunch before heading to Frankenmuth. Upon arrival in Frankenmuth our local guide will give you a historical tour of this quaint Bavarian village. Check-in to the Drury Inn and Suites in time for Kick Back featuring complimentary appetizers and beverages. Or stroll the shops along Main Street before dinner. Dinner this evening at the Bavarian Inn Restaurant, featuring Frankenmuth’s world famous chicken with all the trimmings. Day 6: Frankenmuth / Indianapolis
Enjoy tasty points of interest as we meander back to Indianapolis. At Spicer Orchards a narrated tractor led wagon ride will take you through the orchards. Then browse the market area; everyone will enjoy cider and a donut, and free time to visit the barn and shop in the market. There is even a winery on site! Travel a short distance to the Chelsea Milling Company, the original home of “Jiffy Mix“ where you’ll see a video, sample some products and walk through the packaging plant led by tour hosts. See how their mixes are made and packaged for corn bread, muffins, pizza dough—and the original Jiffy Mix recipe. Free time after to check out the products for sale in the tour reception area. Lunch included in Chelsea at a local restaurant before continuing back to Indianapolis. (B,L)
