Beginning with lunch at Fisherman’s Wharf it just keeps getting better. Wine tastings in the heart of the Sonoma Wine Country and a lunch, tour and tasting in the sophisticated bubbly of a champagnery! Walk through the Sequoias and bask in the beauty of the magnificent Redwoods. You even get to spend a little time with Peanuts and Charlie Brown at the delightful Charles Schulz Museum.
Each day on this Interlude is packed with elegant homes, glorious scenery and even a home-cooked lunch at the home of the young John Steinbeck. Free time is allotted in Carmel so you can savor the delights of the village, art galleries and shops. Stay in an oceanfront resort and enjoy the cliff top ambiance of the crashing waves.

Day 1 Fly to San Francisco / To Wine Country
Early morning flight to San Francisco. Board your private motorcoach and drive into San Francisco for lunch on your own at Fisherman’s Wharf. Then, motor north over the world famous Golden Gate Bridge to your hotel in the heart of the Sonoma Wine Country. Enjoy a Get Acquainted Dinner tonight. Doubletree Sonoma (D)
Day 2 Sonoma / Redwoods / Wineries
A wonderful day trip awaits you today. Drive through the Valley of the Moon for a winery tour & tasting. Follow the Russian River and visit a champagnery for a tour, tasting, and included lunch. Next, stop at Armstrong Redwoods State Park and enjoy a walking tour through these giant Sequoia trees. Continue on to Santa Rosa for a tour of the Charles Schulz Museum, dedicated to the beloved Peanuts / Charlie Brown cartoonist. Return to your hotel for a free evening. Doubletree Sonoma (B,L)
Day 3 San Francisco / FILOLI / Monterey
Drive south across the Golden Gate Bridge and into San Francisco for a city tour with a local Step-on Guide. Continue down to Woodside and tour the elegant 1917 FILOLI Mansion & Gardens, former home of multi-millionaire gold baron William Bourn and used in the 1980’s TV show Dynasty. Motor down the coast to Monterey for wine & cheese at your hotel before an included dinner on Old Fisherman’s Wharf. Victorian Inn, Monterey (B,D)
Day 4 Monterey / Carmel
A spectacular day trip awaits you again today. Motor along the scenic 17-Mile Drive with stops in Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach Lodge, Lone Cypress Point, and Seal Beach. Free time in quaint Carmel village to browse the art galleries and shops. Next, stop in nearby Salinas, lettuce capital of the world and boyhood home of author John Steinbeck. Enjoy a home-cooked lunch at the original house of young Steinbeck. Visit the National Steinbeck Center, dedicated to the life and works of one of America’s most endearing authors. Day 5 Hearst Castle / Pismo Beach
Enjoy a scenic drive on the amazing Big Sur Highway #1 south to San Simeon. Tour famed Hearst Castle on Enchanted Hill, finished in 1919 by newspaper mogul William Randolph Hearst. Visit La Casa Grande—the big house—and see what it was like to be a famous Hollywood guest at the parties on this hilltop retreat. Day 6 Santa Barbara to Ventura
Drive south through the fertile Santa Ynez Valley to tour Flag Is Up Farms, home of “horse whisperer,” Monty Roberts. Next, stop in the Danish-style village of Solvang for lunch and shopping. Then, arrive in scenic Santa Barbara for the “Red Tile Tour” of the city’s historic buildings. Finally, arrive at your oceanfront highrise hotel in Ventura for tonight’s Farewell Dinner. Day 7 Getty Museum
Motor south into LA to visit the world famous J. Paul Getty Art Museum. Then, arrive at LAX and your airport hotel. Note: post night may have to be added to accommodate air late air schedule. (B)
