On this wonder-filled Interlude guided vacation you get to enjoy a relaxing visit to the Myvatn Nature Baths. Located just south of the Arctic Circle, Lake Mývatn and the surrounding area are noted as one of Europe’s greatest natural treasures. As a designated nature reserve, it is an area where tourist services have been delicately developed in a way that causes very little disruption to the unique ecosystem. The Nature Baths draw on a century- old tradition that provides a unique blend of minerals, silicates and geothermal micro-organisms to benefit both the skin and the spirit. Your experience begins with a thoroughly relaxing dip in billows of steam rising up from the fissure deep in the surface of the earth and ends with a luxurious swim in a pool of geothermal water drawn from depths of up to 2,500 meters. Due to its chemical composition, undesired bacteria and vegetation do not thrive in the lagoon making chloride or any other disinfectant unnecessary. The water has a temperature of about 130°C when it arrives to the surface but the lagoon is at a temperature of 36 – 40°C.
Some things you should know before indulging in this therapeutic bath:
- Remove your jewelry, except gold (silver will turn black)
- All around are underwater benches
- There are 2 pools accessible
- Towels and bathrobes can be rented or you can bring in your own.
- Locker coin
- There is a great machine to dry your swimsuit.
This site was chosen because it is more intimate than the more touristy Blue Lagoon providing you with the most beneficial relaxation after your touring time. Another bonus is they allow you to take pints of beer into the pool with you and while providing magnificent landscape views down the mountain and across the lake itself.
Look forward to this marvelous treat for body and soul while you peruse the complete itinerary for this extraordinary Iceland guided vacation.
