Vintage Trains of the Great Southwest
Ride the rails aboard three vintage trains: Santa Fe Southern, Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge and Verde Canyon Railways

May 9-18, 2010
10 days 9 nights

Take in the sites of Albuquerque visiting the renowned Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, and riding the tramway to Sandia Peak where you’ll experience the drama of an 11,000 square mile panoramic view. Travel to Santa Fe for your first rail adventure on the Sante Fe Southern. As you travel the rails rambling along in vintage coaches you will see some spectacular panoramic views of the high desert landscape.

Continue your excursion through Taos to Durango. Step back in history as you step aboard the world famous Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, a coal-fired, steam-powered 1881 locomotive, where you'll view the magnificent canyons and wilderness of the two million acre San Juan National Forest and the historic mining town of Silverton. At Mesa Verde National Park, take a look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home from A.D. 600 to A.D. 1300. Then travel to Flagstaff where you’ll have free time to explore Grand Canyon Village and sightsee along the South Rim.

Ride through a beautiful canyon in central Arizona on The Verde Canyon Railroad, originally built to support Arizona's richest copper mine, located in Jerome. The 22-mile rail trip follows a dramatic route through the Verde Canyon, the remains of a copper smelter, and much unspoiled desert that is inaccessible by car. You tour concludes with two-nights at the 4-diamond Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
