TRAVEL ITINERARY

Day 1: Departure to Bay City
Travel to Bay City, Michigan where you’ll be greeted at a welcome reception at the historic Pere Marquette Depot. Get caught up in the excitement of watching the Tall Ships arrive at Wenonah Park. After checking into your waterfront hotel for 3 nights, The Doubletree, enjoy a welcome dinner then continue to take in the festivities. Doubletree Hilton, Bay City, MI (CB, D)

Day 2: Bay City
After breakfast at your waterfront hotel, avoid the crowds with your special early admission to the festival where many of the tall ships are docked and available for boarding. A guided history tour is the best way to get your bearings in Bay City. Join our local guide for a driving tour of the Center Avenue Historic District. Spend some time at the Bay County Historical Museum after your tour. The Museum's Kantzler Maritime Gallery provides an overview of the incredible maritime history of Bay City and features a miniature of the Saginaw River Rear Range Lighthouse. A memorable evening awaits you, a sunset dinner sail aboard the Appledore IV, a steel hulled Gaff rigged schooners of a type typical of those sailed on coastal waters and in the Great Lakes right up to the end of the age of sail. Doubletree Hilton, Bay City, MI (B, Dinner sail)

Day 3: Bay City / Midland
A special breakfast awaits you at a popular local breakfast spot. Today you can spend a day at leisure in Bay City or day trip to Midland, Michigan to tour The Alden B. Dow Home & Studio. Following the influence of Frank Lloyd Wright, Alden B. Dow designed his buildings to fit in with nature rather than stand out and look as if they were separate. Built on a pond, the residence seems to melt into the water and gives visitors a unique view from the inside. Enjoy a sack lunch at Dow Gardens. Begun in 1899, the gardens follow the philosophy of its creator, Herbert Dow, founder of Dow Chemical Company: “never reveal the garden's whole beauty at first glance.” Delight in more than 1700 varieties of plants, including a rose garden containing most of the All American Rose selections. As time permits, explore the Midland Center for the Arts and Marshall M. Frederick's Sculpture Museum. We return to Bay City for an included dinner and time to enjoy the festival attractions. Doubletree Hilton, Bay City, MI (B, L, D)
