June 8-12, 2011
5 days 4 nights

Its coming up roses in Portland! Portland is situated in close proximity to the Pacific in a magnificent setting between the sparkling waters of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers. Visit Portland's historic old town, Chinatown and Washington Park. Take in the the world famous Portland Rose Festival from reserved seats.

Affectionately known as the City of Roses, it's no surprise that Portland has one of the most stunning rose gardens in the country. The International Rose Test Garden is a huge rose garden located in Washington Park. There are over 7,000 rose plants of approximately 550 varieties. The roses bloom from April through October with the peak bloom time typically in June. New rose cultivars are continually sent to the garden from many parts of the world and are tested for color, fragrance, disease resistance and other attributes. It is the oldest continuously operating public rose test garden in the United States.

While in the Portland area visit the Columbia Gorge. The Columbia River is the second largest river in North America, starting in northern Idaho and southeastern British Columbia, and traveling over 1,200 miles to the ocean. Through millenniums of geologic events, waterfalls have found their home in the Columbia River Gorge. A visit to the area is not complete without a visit to the breathtaking Multnomah Falls, plummeting 620 feet from its origins on Larch Mountain, it is the second highest year-round waterfall in the United States.

Tour the Timberline Lodge, certainly a state, if not national, treasure! Timberline Lodge, which opened September 28, 1937, is a hand-made wonder. Just about everything in the building from door hinges to furniture is hand-made, mostly from local materials. The Ski Lodge is perched on the south flank of Mt. Hood just above the tree line at around 6,000 feet. Run-off from Mt. Hood’s volcanic slopes enriches soil in the valleys below, making the Hood River Valley one the largest fruit-growing regions in Oregon. The peak is home to twelve glaciers. Mount Hood a stratovolcano, is the highest mountain in Oregon and the fourth-highest in the Cascade Range.
