Day 1: Indianapolis- Reno Check into your downtown casino hotel for a four-night stay. Once you are settled in take time to explore the downtown Casino Core area on your own, do some shopping, or just relax by the pool. Tonight, enjoy a bountiful buffet dinner followed by a stage show (TBA) at the adjacent Eldorado Hotel/Casino. Circus Circus Hotel & Casino (D) Day 2: Reno / Carson City / Lake Tahoe Breakfast is included this morning before departure to scenic Lake Tahoe. Travel south to Nevada’s Capitol City, Carson City and take a drive through the historic home district. See the Governor’s Mansion, the Bliss Mansion, the Nevada State Museum (formerly the U.S. Mint), the Capitol Complex and the Krebs-Peterson Home (film location of John Wayne’s last movie, “The Shootist”). Continue to South Lake Tahoe where you will board the MS Dixie II Paddlewheeler for a luncheon and sightseeing cruise. Sail along the pristine waters of Lake Tahoe, said to be 99% pure, and enjoy the historic narration as you tour beautiful Emerald Bay. Return to Reno after your cruise and enjoy a brief driving tour of the city. Your guide will take you through Millionaire’s Row, along the new River Walk and Art District, through the University area and under both the old and new Reno Arch. Your driving tour will end at your hotel with the remainder of the evening at leisure. Circus Circus Hotel & Casino (B, L) Day 3: Reno / Virginia City A hosted buffet breakfast will be included this morning before traveling the short distance to historic Virginia City. Travel takes you up Geiger Grade giving you spectacular views of Reno and the Washoe Valley. Upon arrival in Virginia City, enjoy a brief narrated driving tour of this former silver rush town. Enjoy leisure time to walk along the wooden sidewalks of yesterday as you browse through the museums, shops, exhibits, saloons and have lunch on your own. Return to Reno in early afternoon and pay a visit to the famous National Automobile Museum. You don’t have to be a car buff to enjoy this stop. The many cars from Harrah’s Auto Collection are placed on display in period street settings. This is a great stop to learn about the history of the automobile. Arrive back at your hotel in the late afternoon, the rest of the day at individual discretion with a buffet dinner coupon included to eat at your leisure. Circus Circus Hotel & Casino (B,D) Day 4: Reno / Carson Valley Travel south via chartered motorcoach to the scenic Carson Valley. Your journey takes you along the Old Franktown Road and through Jack’s Valley where you will drive by the Ascuaga Ranch, owned by Mr. John Ascuaga, perhaps one of the most notable citizens of Basque heritage in the area. Next, stop in the quaint town of Genoa, the oldest town in Nevada. Here you will enjoy a guided tour of the Genoa Courthouse Museum and also the Mormon Station. A traditional Basque family style lunch will be next at either the J&T Restaurant or the Carson Valley Country Club. Afterwards, continue to the Carson Valley Cultural Center for a look at the exhibits depicting the Basque settlers of the Northern Nevada area. Return to Reno and enjoy a driving tour to include the UNR Campus, a drive by of the Basque Statue and Tree Carvings, and a driving tour of the historic Basque sheepherder hotels in downtown Reno. During your tour your step-on guide will tell you all about the Basque Studies Program, Library and Research Department at the University, the Basque settlers and ranchers who arrived in this area in the late 1800’s, the annual Basque Festival and much more. Return to your hotel in the late afternoon and have the rest of the evening to explore and have dinner on your own. Circus Circus Hotel & Casino (B, L) Day 5: Reno / Indianapolis A buffet breakfast is included this morning before hotel check out and transfer to the Reno-Tahoe International Airport for your flight home.
