Day 1: Indianapolis / Burlington VT Arrive at Burlington International Airport where you’ll be shuttled to “Vermont’s Culinary Resort and Spa,” The Essex, where we’ll overnight for the duration of the trip. This hotel combines luxurious country-inn-style accommodations and modern resort amenities. Enjoy free time before dinner at the resort to sit by the fireplace, visit the spa, take a cooking class or go for a quiet stroll on snow-covered paths. After dinner, we’ll sing along to “Moonlight in Vermont” with the evening’s entertainer. The Essex "Culinary Resort & Spa", Essex, VT (D) Day 2: Vermont Touring After breakfast, we’ll learn how real maple syrup is made, from the trees to the finished product, on a traditional Vermont maple sugar farm. You will tour the sugarhouse, sample fresh-made maple syrup and visit the largest and most unique maple, crafts and mail order shop in the area. The owner will treat you to a sugar-on-snow party… Vermont style! Then we visit the famous Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory for a light-hearted tour and a taste of “Vermont’s Finest”! We’ll visit a cider mill, where we open the door to the mouth-watering aroma of fresh-baked cider donuts and watch apple cider being made. The Cider Mill gift shop offers a fine collection of Vermont specialty food products, crafts and wines. Enjoy the samples! The moment you arrive in Stowe Village, you’ll recognize the oft-photographed white steeple of the church in the Village center. We head up the Mountain Road to enjoy a mouthwatering lunch and breathtaking views at the fabulous Austrian-style Stowehof Inn. We then return to Stowe Village to enjoy free time to explore the shops, boutiques, galleries and Vermont craft stores. We’ll visit one of Stowe’s popular confectionaries to learn how candy canes are made and you can even make your own! Tonight’s dinner is at the famous Trapp Family Lodge. After dessert, you’ll feel like singing “The Hills Are Alive” as you return to the inn. The Essex "Culinary Resort & Spa", Essex, VT (B, L, D) Day 3: Bon jour, Montreal (Passport Required) We’ll travel across the border to Montreal, the second-largest French-speaking city in the world. See Old Montreal, with its 17th to 19th-century buildings, cobblestone streets and the spectacular Notre Dame Basilica. View the active Port of Montreal and a multitude of colorful neighborhoods. Take in the stunning view at Mount Royal Park (weather-pending). Enjoy a traditional locals’ luncheon before experiencing the magnificent Salon des métiers d'art du Québec, an incredible Christmas craft show! Taking place for a full three weeks every December, this is the “biggest professional craft show and sale in Canada.” We’ll explore the show and wander through Montreal’s famous Underground City; a world of shops, boutiques and cafes sheltered underground from the winter above. Visit the Museum of Fine Arts and see over 30 Christmas trees decorated according to a rich variety of customs. We can take an optional trip ($14.00) to the Botanical Gardens to enjoy the magic of Christmas in their main greenhouse. Make a quick stop at the Duty-free shop before returning to the USA. Stop at a local grill for a delicious meal. On the way back to the Inn, we’ll enjoy a windshield tour of Burlington’s Church Street Marketplace, all dressed up for the holidays! Then we get our jingle bells ready and sing carols during a holiday light tour on the way back to the inn where we’ll enjoy the sounds of a popular local musician. The Essex "Culinary Resort & Spa", Essex, VT (B, L, D) Day 4: Farewell and Happly Holiday! Burlington VT / Indianapolis After a delicious breakfast at the inn, say farewell as we begin airport transfers for the trip home. Depending on flight schedule, optional activities will be available.
