Enjoy lunch on your own at the Old Post Office Pavilion, a splendid example of Romanesque architecture crowned by a 315-foot clock tower. Visit the National Archives containing the original Declaration of Independence, Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Check in to the Hampton Inn Convention Center for three nights. After dinner on your own, you can choose to see a show on the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center. (Note: seating is first come first serve and cannot be reserved.) Or, just walk through the Kennedy Center and see the spectacular view of Washington from the roof top terrace. Meals: none

Day 2: Washington D.C.
Depart with your guide for stops at The National World War II Memorial, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial, The Lincoln Memorial and The Korean War Memorial. After a photo-op at The White House, enjoy lunch on your own at Union Station, a classic Beaux-Arts design of monumental proportions. Tour Hillwood Museum and Gardens using Acoustic guide Audio. The mansion is the former home of cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post and one of the premier art collector’s house museums in the United States. Not to be missed are Hillwood’s spectacular gardens combining twelve acres of lawns and formal plantings with thirteen acres of native woodland beyond. Drive through Georgetown. Dinner this evening at Tony & Joe’s on the waterfront in Georgetown. After dinner continue with an Illuminated Monument Tour with stops at the Air Force Memorial overlooking the Pentagon. Stop at The Pentagon 9/11 Memorial Park which honors the 184 victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks at The Pentagon. (CB, D)

Day 3: Washington D.C.
Enjoy a free day today in Washington D.C. getting around D.C. by Metro, Tourmobile Sightseeing Tram, or DC Circulator (your guide will have instructed you on these transportation options). While in D.C. we suggest visiting any of the following free attractions: Smithsonian Museums on the national Mall; The Phillips Collection, America’s first museum of Modern Art; The National Museum of Women in the Arts; The National Zoological Park (part of the Smithsonian Institution). Other options with admission fees ranging from $15-$20: Newseum, the only interactive museum of news; New Crime & Punishment Museum (opened May 2008); International Spy Museum dedicated to international espionage; or New Madam Tussauds D.C. where you can “meet” Samuel L. Jackson or shake Bill Clinton’s hand.

Rendezvous with your guide mid-afternoon to begin your International Dine Around. Stop for appetizers and coffee at Coeur De Lion Restaurant, a beautiful setting with stunning skylights and ornate chandeliers. Drive Embassy Row where the former homes of the powerful and socially elite who went broke in the Great Depression are now embassies and associations. Drive by Washington National Cathedral, the sixth largest church in the world and taller than the Washington Monument. Enjoy entrees at Café Atlantico followed by pastries at Casablanca in Old Town Alexandria while listening to exciting music and watching a traditional belly dancer perform. Drive through Old Town Alexandria where you’ll see some of the historic sites such as Christ Church, George Washington Masonic National Memorial and Robert E. Lee’s Boyhood Home. Conclude your evening with digestifs in the historic Willard Hotel’s Round Robin Bar. (CB, Dine Around Dinner)
