Day 1: Indianapolis - Chicago, IL Enjoy and ethnic lunch upon arrival followed by the Chicago History Museum’s Special Exhibit: Chic Chicago. Listen and learn how Chicago women turned to the glamour of couture as a dramatic way to prove Chicago’s beauty and sophistication. The extraordinary garments in this exhibition date from 1861 to 2004, and represent the most prominent couturiers of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Each gown has a strong connection to Chicago. Free time is scheduled for you to explore Chicago on your own from your conveiently located Courtyard Marriott Downtown Chicago hotel in the River North district and near the Magnificent Mile. Your evening is free to pursue your own interests at the theatre or in one of the trendy restaurants near the hotel. (CB, L) Day 2: Chicago Enjoy the morning at leisure before embarking on your ethnically edible feast. First course is in Chinatown, for a delicious assortment of Dim Sum and a walk through the third largest Chinese settlement in America. Visit grocery stores filled with oriental ingredients, bakeries that go far beyond almond and fortune cookies and import emporiums of beautiful treasures of past and present from the East. Next, see an amazing Ukrainian Church, built only 35 years ago, where the iconography and decoration reflect old world values and artistic interpretations. The artist, trained in the Ukraine, executed the interior frescos in the age-old techniques. Do you love Latin rhythms? A professional dance instructor will be joining us to celebrate the Latino culture and teach some of the basic moves of Salsa Dancing- a lively dance form of Latin America. You’ll not only roll your “R’s” in the Latino way -but also your hips!! Browse along the mid-west East Indian Shopping Mecca to view the many jewelry stores filled with the assortment of gold pieces often bought brides. The sari shops are resplendent with lush fabric and traditional fashions. In the food markets you’ll find spices, fruits, vegetables and groceries in tempting displays just waiting to be explored. We know that shopping makes you hungry, so the next stop is Brauhaus in Lincoln Square. The authentic German specialties of the restaurant are yours to savor. A combination plate assures you an ample tasting opportunity while live oom-pah music adds to the atmosphere. When you experience Chicago’s Greek Town you are seeing the best sampling of Greek heritage, outside of Athens! View the traditional Greek temples and pavilions at the major intersections and enjoy the warmth and informality of the taverna where pastries, coffee and tea are served. Exhilarating music and a talented belly dancer complete your evening. (D and entertainment) Day 3: Chicago - Indianapolis Relax and unwind at the Chicago Botanic Garden, a place of ever-changing natural beauty that makes each visit a unique experience. In May, the colors of spring are lighting up each garden with new life and wonder. Every display bed, hillside, native habitat, and hanging basket blooms with the best the season can offer. Here, a riot of color is yours to enjoy! Needless to say, this expansive space is a bird lovers dream.
