Day 1: Indianapolis – Springfield, IL Explore the rich tapestry of Lincoln’s life starting with the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, the Quaker-brown residence where the Abraham Lincoln family lived for seventeen years (1844-1861) is a national treasure. It's located in the midst of a four-block historic neighborhood. Lunch on your own in the historic district. Depart with local guide, visit the Old State Capitol Hall of Representatives where the immortal words “A house divided against itself cannot stand” were spoken preceding the Civil War. Lincoln's association with this building spanned the years 1837-1860. Visit First Presbyterian Church, Abraham Lincoln's Association with the church began in 1850 and continued until he left Springfield to assume the duties of President in 1861. The church also is noted for its Louis Comfort Tiffany designed windows. Enjoy dinner with 'Lincoln' at your host hotel, the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel located in the heart of historic downtown Springfield. (CB, D) Day 2: Springfield, IL – Indianapolis Experience Lincoln life at the incredible Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Opened in April of 2005 the site blends “scholarship with showmanship,” using 21st century technology to immerse you in the world of gas lamps and hoop skirts - the world of Abraham Lincoln.” This remarkable new museum and library complex is like no other presidential museum in the country. For the first time visitors can literally walk through Lincoln's life. It is the only place where people can experience his life in its entirety and begin to understand this man's greatness. You will have lots of time to tour, shop and enjoy lunch on your own and in your own timeframe. Before departing, visit the Lincoln Tomb, final resting place for Abraham, Mary Todd, Tad, Eddie and Willie Lincoln. (Oldest Son, Robert, is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.) The Oak Ridge Cemetery, the second most visited cemetery in the U.S. People from across the country and throughout the world come to see the tomb of Springfield's most famous citizen. But, this beautiful 300-acre cemetery is also the final resting place for other notable historical figures including four Illinois governors, and Lincoln's law partner, William Herndon.
