TRAVEL ITINERARY
DAY 1: Anchorage,
Alaska
Fly to Anchorage and check into your downtown hotel. Free
time to explore cosmopolitan Anchorage.
DAY 2: McKinley Explorer Rail to Denali National Park
Experience waterfalls, wildlife and birch, aspen and
fir forests in an endless mountain panorama. At Denali your
gracious
lodge waits to welcome you to the wilderness. Organized
flight seeing, horseback riding, white water rafting, fishing
and golfing tours are available. And don't miss the rollicking
musical
at the

Night

DAY 3: Denali National Park
Experience one of the earth's last intact ecosystems on the comprehensive
Tundra Wilderness Tour. Return to your lodge with memories of wildlife,
Mt. Denali (McKinley to the lower 48) and nature's wild, untamed beauty.
DAY 4: Explorer Coach to Seward
This morning board your Explorer Coach for sightseeing through some of
Alaska's most dramatic scenery. Your ship awaits you in Seward, a picturesque
harbor town on Resurrection Bay.
DAY 5: College Fjord Scenic Cruising
Only one place in Alaska surrounds you on three sides with flowing rivers
of ice. Imagine cruising past one dramatic tidewater glacier after another
- an awesome assemblage of Ice Age wonders named after the nation's leading
Ivy League colleges. Linger here for an in-depth lesson in nature's power.
DAY 6: Glacier Bay Scenic Cruising
As Biosphere Reserve and UNESCO World Heritage Site, Glacier
Bay National Park; protects a unique ecosystem of plants and animals
living in concert with an ever-changing glacial landscape. How does it
feel when a monumental chunk of ice splits off a glacier and crashes
into the sea? The sound is like thunder. The impact shoots water hundreds
of feet into the air. You hold your breath as you catch the moment on
film. Then you wait for it all to happen again. And it does. Glacier
Bay has more actively calving tidewater glaciers than anyplace else in
the world.
DAY 7: Haines/Skagway Cruising
Nestled on the shores of America's longest fjord, Haines is in a spectacular
setting. Fill your day with a float trip through the Chilkat Bald Eagle
Preserve which protects the habitat of the nation's avian symbol, or
visit the Sheldon Museum, art galleries and local hops in town. Optional
high speed catamaran access for shopping and excursions in Skagway will
also be available.
DAY 8: Juneau
Located at the foot of grand mountain peaks on the Gastineau Channel,
the town of Juneau has the massive Mendenhall Glacier and the immense
Juneau Ice fields at its back door. Juneau is the place to let your imagination
run wild. Explore the lush Tongass National Forest. Visit the rustic
shops in town. Or get out and kayak, dogsled, raft, hike, whale watch,
flightsee or fish. There s no end to the adventure because of the long
daylight hours. Climb aboard the Mt. Roberts Tramway for a great spot
to hike and shoot a souvenir photo.
DAY 9: Ketchikan
Built out over the water and climbing weathered stairways, Ketchikan
clings to the shores of Tongass Narrows and drapes the mountains with
a cheerful air. Besides the main attractions - Creek Street, the Tongass
Historical Museum, Totem Bight State Park and Saxman Village, try a flightseeing
trip to breathtaking Misty Fjords National Monument--a transformational
adventure not to be missed. These deep water fjords left by retreating
glaciers left granite cliffs towering thousands of feet above the sea
and countless waterfalls cascading into placid waters. The souvenir photos
you'll take from the pontoons of the plane are worth the trip alone.
DAY 10: Scenic Cruising Inside Passage
DAY 11: Disembark in Vancouver
Galleries, boutiques, colorful public markets, restaurants of every ethnicity:
this vital port city has them all. Visit vibrant Chinatown and Stanley
Park, with its 1,000 acres of forests, gardens, lakes and lawns in the
heart of the city. Sample shore excursions: Highlights of Vancouver & Granville
Island; Stanley Park & Scenic Grouse Mountain. Fly home today, or
add additional days in Vancouver with Victoria or Whistler Resort. Vancouver
is the
home of the 2010 Olympics.
